Hardware Sales
About Us
Founded by Max and Alta McClellan in 1962, Hardware Sales began as a small shop called Powder Sales on James Street, specializing in surplus goods and dynamite. The early days were marked by a dedication to quality products and exceptional service, principles that still guide us today. As the community’s needs evolved, so did we. By the early 1970s, we transitioned to Hardware Sales and moved to our current location in Bellingham, where we’ve grown to occupy
several blocks.
Our expansion didn’t stop there. We established distribution centers in Ferndale, WA, and Whiteland, IN, to support our thriving online sales, ensuring that customers near and far have access to our extensive inventory. Today, we employ over 140 people who share our commitment to service and expertise. We offer everything from hardware and tools to an extensive fleet of equipment rentals, catering to both DIY enthusiasts and professional contractors.

Hardware Sales is perhaps the most unique store in Bellingham. Under Alta McClellan’s supervision, the store has prospered the old-fashioned way: by having all the product anyone could want and providing great customer service.

Hardware Sales is more than an institution, more than a destination – it’s a community treasure. Its long tradition and its success are based in its family business core and the lady at its center.
